Client-Directed Home Care Invoicing (CDHCI)

More Choice. More Flexibility. Care That Fits Your Needs.

What is CDHCI?

The Client-Directed Home Care Invoicing (CDHCI) option gives eligible Alberta Health Services (AHS) Home and Community Care clients greater choice in how their approved home care services are arranged.

Once assessed by AHS and approved for CDHCI, eligible clients can choose a home care agency registered with Alberta Blue Cross to provide the services authorized in their care plan.
At Prairie Comfort Homecare, we work with eligible CDHCI clients to provide compassionate, personalized support in the comfort of their own homes.

Simple Steps to Get Started

1. Request an AHS Home Care Assessment

Contact Alberta Health Services Home & Community Care to discuss your care needs. An AHS Case Manager will assess your situation and determine the appropriate home care supports.

2. Discuss CDHCI With Your AHS Case Manager

If CDHCI is considered appropriate for your situation, your AHS Case Manager will explain the program and the responsibilities involved in directing and monitoring your care.

How Does CDHCI Work?

CDHCI allows eligible clients to have more choice in selecting a registered home care provider. AHS determines the client’s care needs and authorized services, including the maximum number of approved hours. The selected provider delivers the authorized services and submits eligible claims directly to Alberta Blue Cross, the program administrator.

Important: CDHCI funding is based on the services and hours authorized by AHS. Not all requested services or additional hours are automatically covered.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does CDHCI stand for?
CDHCI stands for Client-Directed Home Care Invoicing.
It is an Alberta Health Services Home and Community Care service-delivery option that allows eligible clients to choose a registered provider to deliver authorized home care services. Financial claims administration is managed through Alberta Blue Cross.
Yes. Eligible clients approved for CDHCI can choose a home care agency that is registered with Alberta Blue Cross to provide the services authorized by AHS.

Yes. Prairie Comfort Homecare provides services to eligible CDHCI clients according to their AHS-approved care plan and authorized hours.

CDHCI is not limited exclusively to seniors. Eligibility is determined through the AHS Home and Community Care assessment process, and the Case Manager determines whether CDHCI is an appropriate option based on the client’s circumstances and care needs.
CDHCI allows registered providers to submit claims directly to Alberta Blue Cross for authorized services and approved hours. The program does not mean that unlimited home care is automatically free. Services and hours must be authorized, and any additional services or hours outside the approved arrangement may be subject to private payment.

We recommend discussing your specific authorization and any potential additional costs with Prairie Comfort Homecare before services begin.
If your care needs change, you should contact your AHS Case Manager. AHS can reassess your needs and determine whether your care plan should be adjusted. Prairie Comfort Homecare may also be able to discuss private-pay options for additional care that is not covered by your approved CDHCI authorization.
Absolutely. Our team can provide a free consultation to explain how our services work, discuss your care needs, and help you understand what information you may need when speaking with AHS about home care and CDHCI.
